2017 June 4th Sunday Toonumbar Forest Dead End Street Day Trip
Posted by: sirlezz - 12-01-2017, 08:48 AM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (15)

Hi guys

Sunday day tour Big Grin

Planning on a day trip to Toonumbar Forest and the dam for lunch "Bells Bay Camp ground" Tongue
Then onto the Condamine and Boonah via Geiger Rd on the way home

This is an easy drive for most of the way with some great views of the mountains lunch by the water followed by some creek crossings and finishing with a technical drive before heading for home

We travel from Beaudesert up the Lions Rd and into NSW, traverse the Toonumbar Forest Rd down to the dam, then return for the climb back up to Coxs rd to go over the mountain down to Woodenbong and off to the Condamine River Rd of 14 river crossings although one of them has been culverted and you can't get your wheels wet, then up the Head Lookout and a down the mountain range run to Boonah,
Finishing with the challenging Geiger Rd run, ( If it is wet we may go in the reverse direction as this is more manageable)

Google Maps took some coaxing to get it right to our itinerary,  but it is mostly accurate Cool

This day tour will take at around 8 hours of driving to complete Angel

Starting meeting point Hungry Jacks to leave by 8am
be there earlier if you want drinks or food before we leave

Lunch at the dam via  Bells Bay picnic grounds day use area

Back track back up the range  to Coxs rd and then over the mountain to Woodenbong and then onto the Condamine river run
Finishing via Geiger Rd run and then home again

you won't be bored Angel

  20170126 Australia Day long weekend
Posted by: White Bush Pig - 15-11-2016, 08:43 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (4)

Hi everyone.
I was advised today by Paul Burgess that he and his family have made a booking to stay at Borumba Dam for the Australia day long weekend. This is the same location as our Xmas party last year - Imbil.
In 2017 Australia day falls on a Thursday so if you are planning on getting away be sure to book in for the Friday off work.
This is a great location with a creek close by for swimming and some fantastic 4wd tracks to go exploring.
If you are interested in going on this trip be sure to book in early as no doubt it might be a popular choice for the long weekend.

Hi

Joe and I went on a bit of a relax trip yesterday and stayed overnight at the Bigriggen Park

http://www.bigriggen.com.au/

If you want somewhere not too far from Brisbane, easy 2WD drive, showers and toilets where you can also take your dog then this park is for you.
I must say i was not expecting much and yes there were a heap of people but mostly we did not hear them and we had a good fire to keep us warm.

  2016 XMAS weekend Ballina Beach Option - 19th - 20th November
Posted by: sirlezz - 29-06-2016, 04:28 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (19)

Been looking on You Camp for some different ideas for our end of year camping

Option One Wins the debate

Option 1 Ballina Beach Village  https://www.youcamp.com/properties/774

Gorgeous 20 acres property on the beach by the river. Amenities include camp kitchen, 3 amenities blocks with hot showers, 2 pools, childrens playground, dump point, cafe, kiosk, bait, tackle, cabins if you need them. From $20 night

4wheel drive access to the beach - no permit is required. You can drive all the way South to Evans Head, about 30+ Kms tides permitting.

Access us via the Burns Point Ferry if you are coming from Ballina, ($5.50 one way) or come via Wardell if you are coming from South. See full description, travel instructions and photos at our website,

https://www.ballinabeachvillage.com.au/

We are pet friendly too! Wilderness paradise.

Option 2 Mt Barney Wilderness Retreat https://www.youcamp.com/properties/174

2.5 hrs drive from Brisbane, 30km south of Boonah. 4WD access only.
Open Friday to Sunday (minimum booking is for two nights). Camping Fees: $25 per person per night. Cabin fees: $160 per night (sleeps up to 10 persons). 130ha at 725m beside Mt Barney NP.

We have about 130ha (300ac) of mountains and forest available to you for camping and bushwalking. We offer a small camping ground with all the basic facilities you would expect in a wilderness retreat plus a bit more.
For those who want to stay close to our main facilities we offer about 2 ha of open space in which to pitch your tent or place your camper van.
For those who want a complete wilderness escape we can also offer even more remote locations - hidden in the forest and ridges of the property and accessible by more experienced four wheel drivers - as the tracks get rougher and steeper.

Option 3 Hosanna Farmstay https://www.youcamp.com/properties/753

Nestled in the beautiful Tweed Valley on the NSW North Coast, 2 hours from Brisbane, 40 minutes from the Gold Coast Airport and 40 minutes from Byron Bay $12 per person per night camping

Hosanna is a 100-acre family and dog friendly farmstay just behind the busy coastal strip of Northern NSW, offering accommodation, activities and functions for individuals, families, groups, and schools.

Come and help feed the farm animals and join in the milking. Have a splash in the dam, jump off the diving board and paddle in a kayak! Build your campfire and finish the day roasting marshmallows. Hosanna is located in the Tweed Valley, near Mt Warning
Great activities, a swimming dam with diving board and kayaks, and the yummiest food ever, make a Hosanna a great school camp venue! Katapult, Amazing Race and Dreamtime

More to come
