  20170819 Sundown National Park
Posted by: White Bush Pig - 10-06-2017, 11:51 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (11)

Sundown National Park - Camping plus nominated track maintenance.
Weekend of 19th/20th August, however an extra day or 2 would be great if you can get it off work. (Ekka public holiday is on Wed 16th, so possibility to take 17th & 18th off)?
Huh
Meeting: 8am Shell servo at Aratula for an 8.30 leave time.
UFH channel 28.
As there could be some track maintenance involved, be sure to bring a pair of gloves, eye protection, hatchet, machete or chainsaw etc.
It WILL be cold so be sure to dress and prepare appropriately for the conditions. Sitting around a roaring campfire is always something to look forward to though!

Sundown can be quite rocky with possibility of sharp shaly stones in some areas, so a good set of at least all terrain tyres is recommended for this trip.

  20170715 Gordon Country
Posted by: White Bush Pig - 10-06-2017, 11:16 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (15)

Hi Everyone. It was originally discussed to go to Sundown National Park for the weekend of the 17th and 18th of June, however it was brought to my attention that Sundown will be closed for pest management on this weekend. (School holidays start the following weekend). The suggestion was also made that perhaps we swap the dates for Sundown with going to Gordon Country instead. (Gordon Country had been pencilled in for 19th/20th August).
So to this end, please check out the link below for info on Gordon Country but in short:
Location: 2081 Inverramsay rd, Goomburra 4362
Property size: 4000 acres
Pets allowed.
Cabins are also available should you wish for a bit more comfort than camping.
Camping fees: $17 per adult per night, $10 per child per night. Children up to and including 4yrs old free.
There is a mandatory vehicle fee of $10 per car or $30 per 4wd. This covers the duration of your stay.
Online bookings are preferred (ensure you print your receipt) but payments can be made on check in.
Link: https://www.gordoncountry.com.au/

Meeting location: Shell servo at Aratula 7.30am for an 8am leave time.
Uhf channel 28.
Please comment on this thread if you think you can make it so we can know numbers.

I did notice on the one of the pages that they reserve the right to shut down the 4wd tracks if it becomes too wet. The good news is that if that happens then there is always Janowen Hills just down the road... Tongue

I have never been to Gordon Country before so am rather looking forward to checking it out. Big Grin

20170708 Simpson Desert + 3 Corners

Hi

I am running a trip to the 3 Corners of Queensland, The Dig Tree and The Simpson Desert - just over 5000km round trip

Starting date - Saturday 8th July - Early - meeting at the BP Aratula DEPART - 7am - First night camp at Bollon.

Home Date - Saturday 22nd July after Departing the free camp at Judds Lagon

More details to come but the Number 1 restriction for the Desert section is no Towing is permitted - Full STOP!

There may be some that join us until Dalhousie Springs - from there we set to cross the Simpson Desert - Caravans and towing vehicles are to make there own plans from there.

I have created a hidden area for our group to place general stuff that others need not see, most of the trip discussion will move to this location..
If you cannot see the page - https://www.rivercity4wdclub.net/forumdi...php?fid=46 This means you A don't have an account on this forum and need one.. or B you have not indicated your intention of traveling with us -- or Both A and B.
If you intend on traveling with us you NOW need to let me know.

Attached is a recent copy of our trip schedule so non travelers have an idea where we may be - actual camping locations and times will and may change due to several cases including weather.

.xls   Simpson 3 Corner updated 20170702.xls (Size: 50 KB / Downloads: 222)
This schedule may not be the latest as micro adjustments are constantly being made - if you are a trip member check the hidden area.

2017 June 4th Sunday Toonumbar Forest Dead End Street Day Trip
Posted by: sirlezz - 12-01-2017, 08:48 AM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (15)

Hi guys

Sunday day tour Big Grin

Planning on a day trip to Toonumbar Forest and the dam for lunch "Bells Bay Camp ground" Tongue
Then onto the Condamine and Boonah via Geiger Rd on the way home

This is an easy drive for most of the way with some great views of the mountains lunch by the water followed by some creek crossings and finishing with a technical drive before heading for home

We travel from Beaudesert up the Lions Rd and into NSW, traverse the Toonumbar Forest Rd down to the dam, then return for the climb back up to Coxs rd to go over the mountain down to Woodenbong and off to the Condamine River Rd of 14 river crossings although one of them has been culverted and you can't get your wheels wet, then up the Head Lookout and a down the mountain range run to Boonah,
Finishing with the challenging Geiger Rd run, ( If it is wet we may go in the reverse direction as this is more manageable)

Google Maps took some coaxing to get it right to our itinerary,  but it is mostly accurate Cool

This day tour will take at around 8 hours of driving to complete Angel

Starting meeting point Hungry Jacks to leave by 8am
be there earlier if you want drinks or food before we leave

Lunch at the dam via  Bells Bay picnic grounds day use area

Back track back up the range  to Coxs rd and then over the mountain to Woodenbong and then onto the Condamine river run
Finishing via Geiger Rd run and then home again

you won't be bored Angel

  20170126 Australia Day long weekend
Posted by: White Bush Pig - 15-11-2016, 08:43 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (4)

Hi everyone.
I was advised today by Paul Burgess that he and his family have made a booking to stay at Borumba Dam for the Australia day long weekend. This is the same location as our Xmas party last year - Imbil.
In 2017 Australia day falls on a Thursday so if you are planning on getting away be sure to book in for the Friday off work.
This is a great location with a creek close by for swimming and some fantastic 4wd tracks to go exploring.
If you are interested in going on this trip be sure to book in early as no doubt it might be a popular choice for the long weekend.
