Posted by: sirlezz - 01-08-2016, 01:50 PM - Forum: General chat - Replies (1)

Hi guys
just got a look at the Unsealed online mag advertising the use of Synthetic Shackles "Gator Jaw" Idea
American brand
safer than a steel projectile and they float too
around $42 US with postage???   Dodgy

But I found a cheaper and closer to home brand from NZ rated at 14 tons this one is made from dyneema rope
eBay item number: 112071714286  $35 with Free postage Cool

There are of course even cheaper Chinese brands of unknown quality Huh

what do you think will you use one instead of steel Big Grin

Joe and I went on a bit of a relax trip yesterday and stayed overnight at the Bigriggen Park

If you want somewhere not too far from Brisbane, easy 2WD drive, showers and toilets where you can also take your dog then this park is for you.
I must say i was not expecting much and yes there were a heap of people but mostly we did not hear them and we had a good fire to keep us warm.

  2016 XMAS weekend Ballina Beach Option - 19th - 20th November
Posted by: sirlezz - 29-06-2016, 04:28 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (19)

Been looking on You Camp for some different ideas for our end of year camping

Option One Wins the debate

Option 1 Ballina Beach Village  https://www.youcamp.com/properties/774

Gorgeous 20 acres property on the beach by the river. Amenities include camp kitchen, 3 amenities blocks with hot showers, 2 pools, childrens playground, dump point, cafe, kiosk, bait, tackle, cabins if you need them. From $20 night

4wheel drive access to the beach - no permit is required. You can drive all the way South to Evans Head, about 30+ Kms tides permitting.

Access us via the Burns Point Ferry if you are coming from Ballina, ($5.50 one way) or come via Wardell if you are coming from South. See full description, travel instructions and photos at our website,

We are pet friendly too! Wilderness paradise.

Option 2 Mt Barney Wilderness Retreat https://www.youcamp.com/properties/174

2.5 hrs drive from Brisbane, 30km south of Boonah. 4WD access only.
Open Friday to Sunday (minimum booking is for two nights). Camping Fees: $25 per person per night. Cabin fees: $160 per night (sleeps up to 10 persons). 130ha at 725m beside Mt Barney NP.

We have about 130ha (300ac) of mountains and forest available to you for camping and bushwalking. We offer a small camping ground with all the basic facilities you would expect in a wilderness retreat plus a bit more.
For those who want to stay close to our main facilities we offer about 2 ha of open space in which to pitch your tent or place your camper van.
For those who want a complete wilderness escape we can also offer even more remote locations - hidden in the forest and ridges of the property and accessible by more experienced four wheel drivers - as the tracks get rougher and steeper.

Option 3 Hosanna Farmstay https://www.youcamp.com/properties/753

Nestled in the beautiful Tweed Valley on the NSW North Coast, 2 hours from Brisbane, 40 minutes from the Gold Coast Airport and 40 minutes from Byron Bay $12 per person per night camping

Hosanna is a 100-acre family and dog friendly farmstay just behind the busy coastal strip of Northern NSW, offering accommodation, activities and functions for individuals, families, groups, and schools.

Come and help feed the farm animals and join in the milking. Have a splash in the dam, jump off the diving board and paddle in a kayak! Build your campfire and finish the day roasting marshmallows. Hosanna is located in the Tweed Valley, near Mt Warning
Great activities, a swimming dam with diving board and kayaks, and the yummiest food ever, make a Hosanna a great school camp venue! Katapult, Amazing Race and Dreamtime

More to come

Endless Air - type compressor ideas
Posted by: troopiepete - 11-06-2016, 10:15 AM - Forum: Technical - Replies (4)

As some may be aware my ARB Compressor failed on the return trip from Fraser, it managed to pump up my 4 tyres and died before completing any more!
I have investigated the fault and for under $100 will have fixed it but the low volumes these pumps deliver have always bugged me and I want more!

I have an old AC compressor and want to mount this in the car to provide better air delivery but need to sort out a few things such as mounting and alterations required to make it work correctly and for years to come - the PDF attached is one mans experience with this.

Hi all!
I'm Shell.. Been searching for a 4wd club to become involved in and came across you guys.. I'm more into experiencing our own back yard rather than extreme off-roading as my 4wd is my daily and my tow vehicle (I'm one of those mad horse owners too )
My partner and I do regular trips to double island as often as we possibly can.
My car.. '07 mighty Trity "big red" [Image: 8060aae6573d66228651dbdf0bc841f9.jpg]
Jumped ship from an 88 patrol ute, to an 06 Nav, to the Trity.
She's not fancy, completely stock but does its job and earns its keep just fine Smile
Partner has an older rodeo ute and is a lot more experienced than I am..
Pretty much looking to meet new friends, tag along on some trips around the place and have a bunch of fun. I'm not an overly experienced 4WDer, got a good hold on the basics but couldn't be keener to learn more!
We're pretty laid back, easy going people Smile
Hopefully that gives you a little insight into who I am and what I'm here for..
Look forward to meeting you all [Image: f4cc22b87c87baa9b9fd60f40bf8a1db.jpg][Image: 6e4ecd861579c326283d3ee7abad1207.jpg]

Hello Clubers

On Wednesday of this week I was walking up Ann St in the valley

I came across Austral motors who are the Landrover dealership

They had several range rovers in the showroom

I thought no harm in dreaming so in I went

In the corner was this RR it looked real nice and even fancier inside but it was locked

I discovered why when I saw the listing price

Wait for it $385,000.00 but it was not the top model

Good to have that amount of cash

A bit fancy to drive through Eli Creek

  Winching how to ideas
Posted by: troopiepete - 23-04-2016, 10:27 PM - Forum: Technical - Replies (1)

Many of us have winches fitted to our 4x4's but do you actually understand how it should be used and why?

The link below runs you through ways to make the best out of your winch and what other gear you should carry.
Personally some of the gear he recommends is possibly over the top but it very much depends on just how much you are prepared to own, carry and use!
An example is a pulley block, I carry one, partly as that's what came in my kit but partly because those things are actually quite heavy and to date I have not needed more than one!

This is a method I have used many times and involves no hard labor or cutting
