2015 April 25-26 MDORC Challenge at LandCruiser Park COMPLETED
Posted by: sirlezz - 08-02-2015, 08:07 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (3)

Hi Guys received this interest invite from the Moreton District Outdoor Recreation Club (MDORC) Dodgy

this invitation is a different outing than we are used too for is to participate in a fun weekend with novelty challenges for 4wders Wink

I will chase up some more information on the type of weekend they have in mind and see if we have some interest in attending Huh

thanks Les

this is the email invite I received last week -

Good Evening Les,

Allow me to introduce myself - I am the Public Relations Officer of Moreton Districts Off Road Club. I am also one of the organisers of MDORC's Annual MDORC Challenge.
Traditionally our MDORC Challenge has been an club only challenge which involves numerous driving and novelty challenges with Modified and Standard Classes.
This year we have decided to open this challenge up to some other 4wd QLD Clubs. We see this as an opportunity to build relationships with other clubs with a vision to be able to set up joint trips with other clubs to be able to offer more variety of trips to our members.
This years MDORC Challenge is being held at Landcrusier Mountain Park on the 25th - 26th of April 2015 and would like to extend an invitation to your club to attend.
We have already had confirmation the the Rum City 4WD Club will be attending and we hope you will be interested as well.

Thanks Aleisha Gill

2015 Easter 3-6 April Kroombit Tops NP trip near Monto
Posted by: sirlezz - 22-12-2014, 07:49 AM - Forum: * NON club trips - Replies (4)

[/b]For anyone interested in Joining us or just for your information about the trip and area Idea

I am wanting to do this trip as I failed (as a day trip) the first time getting there late (got lost) with no time to spare to visit the Betsy bomber, Angry

My son has done this once using the Monto access track, as he was camping at Cania Dam however there are 3 more tracks into the park and all are accessible right at this moment Cool

My son is planning a trip in 2015 and I will try to join him if I can depending on what trips we have on already that doesn't clash Rolleyes

Itinerary so far

Friday travel to and camp at my daughters, near Monto -
Saturday drive to and night camp at Kroombit NP
Sunday tour park taking different route out and return home

Monto is 6+ hours from Brisbane
My daughter has acreage there and we can camp overnight there saving fees
then an early start, refuel at Monto, then head up to the park via Monto track and visit the Betsy bomber site complete the loop road and camp over night close by
Sunday tour some more of the park and take one of the other tracks out of the park and return home Sunday

Options
1 North this is a 2 wheel drive road and easy but long way round
2 West along the razorback track and down into Biloela - challenging and scenic
3 East along the Clewley Gap road - challenging but not very long into Ubobo
4 Return via the Monto track - an option but not 1st choice

This will be a full on weekend of driving to there, touring around and then home again somewhat exhausted but satisfied Big Grin Cool Tongue

The tracks are often challenging but doable, so we go slow and steady
The bomber site alone is worth it
The loop road is a one way traffic only and well worth a drive too
a couple of great lookouts

check out these attachements

.pdf   Kroombit 4WD Brochure- web.pdf (Size: 5.46 MB / Downloads: 572)

For myself as I have the time (not working)
I will probably head up Friday early to Monto, Meet up with my son when he arrives from Bundaberg, and get ready for Saturday morning start
and after leaving the park I will return to stay Sunday night at Monto before heading home leisurely
might also want to visit Cania dam, Waruma dam or some other local sites before heading home to round out the tour for me

As I said you are welcome to join us on the tour
will post more information as 2015 rolls on and we firm up a dateShy

2015 Moreton Districts Off Road Club tagalong tour in planning
Posted by: sirlezz - 19-12-2014, 11:21 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (1)

Hi guys

Johnny O has had some dialogue with a member of the club and he is keen to get things started and has referred me to the club trip coordinator Dodgy

I have expressed an official interest via email in a tag along tour with Moreton Districts Off Road Club in their usual playground of the Sunshine coast hinterland, Beerburrum, Glasshouse mountains and Maleny areas etc. Rolleyes

just putting this one on the radar and see what interest comes up from us and them Idea

As I have never been 4wding in the glass house mountains and or surrounding forests I hope this type of trip will satisfy those of us who would like something different where we may have never been before Tongue

our reciprocation trip can be around our usual haunts or maybe Sundown National Park when we plan it later on this year Cool

anyway we can work something out over the next few months Big Grin before locking it in Eddie Shy

MDORC have at the moment on their planner
Sat 18 April Mt Mee night trip
Sat -Sun 23-24 May Jimna
Sat 21 June Glass house Mountains

If there is anything you might like to tagalong please reply to this forum

thanks

Looking for a place to go to on this long weekend Huh
a place to swim stay cool and beat the crowds etc. Cool

some suggestions are back to Cooloola at Teewah beach Idea
Gets busy but is is cool good for a swim, fish and some touring down rainbow beach at low tide, would be good if you can stay longer than the 3 days

Janowen 4wd park,at Goomburra there maybe a swimming hole, but not sure yet plenty of 4wd tracks and close to Brisbane
Will check it out for how busy it may be Shy

Moreton Island was discussed but it needs more than a weekend to justify the ferry costs and could be busy too would be good to stay longer than 3 days Tongue

Any way post some ideas of your own wild ones or not AngryBlushConfusedHuhUndecided

I will check them out over the next few weeks, and report back but being xmas butmay be slow getting information

we should make our mind up by mid January and settle for one whatever you want it to be

Posted by: sirlezz - 18-11-2014, 06:16 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (24)

HI guys

I got an invite to go to Imbil with Nth Coast 4wd club who organised the great 2013 Corroboree and drive some of the tracks that were presented on that weekend Blush Wink Big Grin Tongue

We will base camp at Borumba Dam camp grounds and track out from there for two days camping over Friday and Saturday nights

Some of these tracks are quite scenic with views into the dam and forest valleys with runs through the pine plantations as well Wink they are moderate to harder in places but all doable, just like the Levuka weekend Big Grin

It is just over 2 hrs drive from Brisbane and you can bring your campers/tents and other gear to lay out for an easy weekend camp Cool

I will have more details when they are provided, but I have said to their Trip Coordinatoer I will put in a date claimer for our club and drum up some interest Idea

I can discuss more details at the next club meeting wherever that is

Moreton Island times Easter 3 -6 April

Hello fellow club members,

At the last meeting we talked about a trip next year to moreton island and I was going to check on the times.

Well it looks like they do two trips on the Fridays, one at 8:30 am and one at 1:00 pm over to the Wreaks and returning back to Brisbane at 4:30pm on the Sunday.

This might be worth looking at early next year?
