I have been in contact with the park regarding heading up on Friday the 11th to try and beet the 3000+ crowd, it appears that regardless of you just camping or actually going there to play and camp it will still cost you $45 per car so if you like I wish to head up early please let me know.

 2014 - 29th - 30th - Land Cruiser Park
Posted by: troopiepete - 17-03-2014, 07:56 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (13)

Who wants to go to LCMP - Land Cruiser Mountain Park ?

This park has it all, good camping, easy and hard tracks and it's a working cattle farm.
I would normally jump at a chance to run a club trip in the park but have a prior engagement that I cannot get out of nor do I want to "Narelle"
So we need both numbers and someone to lead this trip.. you don't need to know the park just a desire to go is enough..

Steve has indicated he will be home and is looking forward to going and has a friend he may bring so we already have two cars, will you be the next on the list :o

Please either post on here or send an email either way we need to know who is interested.

 2014 May - Sat 17th,Sun 18th - Spring Mountain Horse Enduro COMPLETED
Posted by: troopiepete - 18-02-2014, 04:26 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (8)

Hi Gang

I have just received a notice that the Spring Mountain Horse Endurance ride will be held on the weekend of the 17th and 18th of May this year!
This falls one week prior to the Fraser Island cleanup so it will put some pressure on myself and others but we should still be able to do it as the distance involved for travel to the event are heaps less than others.

Over the next few weeks/months I will try and get more information regarding the requirements so please stay tuned.

Attending from our 4x4 Club:

1 - Peter - VK4FSD - HF to 70cm & UHF CB - Ride Base Controller - at this stage - anyone offering to take over :?
2 - Sharon - CB Radio - Horse lover Tongue
3 - Les & Eric VK4AEB &VKAEC 70cm & 2m bands with cb radio

Attending from External:

1 - Harry VK4TK & Son

 2014 March 1 & 2 - Maryvale Horse Endurance ride
Posted by: troopiepete - 07-01-2014, 01:05 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (10)

We are chasing operators both Ham and 4WD people to assist in the 2014 Maryvale Horse Endurance ride.

This has been an Annual event usually held early in the year, although as its weather dependent it sometimes gets postponed as some of the roads become rivers or mud baths!

The Actual event starts first sun on Sunday morning but operators are required to be available no later than lunch time Saturday so your checkpoints can be shown to you, often the final locations are decided once we know just how many people we have available.
I like to have a minimum of two people per checkpoint - one a Ham Operator the other can be either a Ham or general public.
This situation is not always possible as we often fall short as people become unavailable :x

The Checkpoints can be quite remote and you are required to take enough food water and shelter to keep you comfortable for most of the day, some points are worth camping at due to the remote locations and the fact you need to be out there and ready before the Horses leave Ride Base early Sunday Morning.
Otherwise you can free camp at Ride Base and head out early - it's up to you.

Jenny has told me the ride will be the same as last year but I am chasing actual numbers from her..
Last year we also needed people to man gates that bypassed cattle grids - these are non radio locations that do not require any figures to be taken.

So what I need now are numbers - please let me know if you can assist.

List of Operators:

1 - Peter VK4FSD +4WD
2 - Les VK4FAEB & Erik VK4FAEC +4WD
3 - Raymund VK4FRRW & Wife +4WD

Non Ham - 4WD People
1 - Adrian - hekarewe
2 - Sharyn - Shazz (Willing to do Ride Base) 8-)
3 - Merv

 2014 - 22nd & 23rd Feb - Sundown working bee, camping 4WD
Posted by: troopiepete - 23-12-2013, 08:12 PM - Forum: Care Trips - Parks working bees - Replies (31)

As you may have noticed I have changed the Dates to better suit my availability as no one seemed to have any objections :?

The Current idea for the trip will be for some of us to head up Friday and set up camp, possibly at the Winter camp as it's closest to the work site..
Or there is a possibility of some other site on the actual track..
The remainder of the working group will turn up on Saturday and join us on the working track, we will plan to work until around lunch time then head off to play and depending on the weather maybe even look at having a swim, there is a creek crossing on the working bee track that may be ok for a dip but must admit to never actually stopping to check it out Confusedhock:

We do need to ensure this trip is planned as the Ranger needs to be notified and possibly our joint venture club should be invited to help.

2014 July 11th to the 10th August Cape York - Planning stage COMPLETED
Posted by: troopiepete - 03-12-2013, 03:29 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (43)

I have started a new thread for this trip to allow us to start fresh and start to put some actual planning in place 8-)

The Main part of the Trip starts from Daintree on the 14th July - where we go from there will very much depend on track closures or more to the point what is actually open!

Darryl and I will be departing Brisbane early Friday morning the 11th possibly camping north of Mackay, the next day will see us camping north of Townsville, arriving in Cairns Sunday possibly around or just after Lunch time. This will obviously depend on just how well we travel and the roads or rather road works we come across.

The remainder of the trip from this point will unfold as it happens, yes we have a plan but it's extremely flexible and has a few days to spare already in the plan so what we actually see and do will depend on many factors and somewhat up to you.

Who is Attending..
1 - Peter & Merv - Troopiepete
2 - Darryl - Daggy
3 - Paul, Alison and Connor 4yrs old

Danny is possibly Joining us at Cairns;
Total of 3 or 4 cars at this stage if all end up attending :o

Updated 07/07/14 By Peter - Troopiepete

To save you time I have relocated the Trip Planner to this first post,
It will be updated as we get closer and even then it is only a Guide as roads and other things will change our plans during the trip so please do not rely on us being as listed..

This will be updated as we get updates on road reports and advice from travelers, I need help around Maytown.. or rather how to head South from there but regardless we may and will change the dates as the trip progresses so it is not set in stone.
You will notice several spare days, these are to allow us to stop and smell the roses if we like an area or dare I say have issues that cause us to be delayed..

Sundown NP - More work needed
Posted by: troopiepete - 02-12-2013, 09:30 AM - Forum: Care Trips - Parks working bees - Replies (3)

The weekend on of the 30th of November and 1st of December 2013 a few of us traveled into Sundown on a non club trip, we started by traveling the track that our club has adopted for maintenance, much of the work done on previous trips has helped with access but there is still quite a lot of work needed to assist in limiting pin-striping of vehicles.

So the question has to be asked when do we return?

At this stage we have put down the 15th and 16th of Feb with possibly a late Friday arrival and late Sunday departure with us staying in the Winter camp to assist in late arrivals, we may look at posting signs to help late arrivals.

A little bit of work is needed to advise other interested parties of or intended visit so please consider joining us for this trip.

2013 November 16th 17th xmas take II - Koreelah NP
Posted by: troopiepete - 14-11-2013, 06:13 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (4)

As you may have seen our plan to travel the Telstra Track has been canceled due to wet weather! :x :x :x
I have moved this thread in the hope it will eventually clear up and we can do this trip another day..

So what are we doing? Big Grin

Depending on the weather we may do the Condumine river run but this is also a dry weather track so it too may be canned :x , if that's the case we can still visit Queen Mary falls then head down to the camp site.

Where are we camping?
Koreelah Camp site. 28.306292 S 152.464347 E

This is a pleasant camping spot at the small grassy area beside Koreelah Creek.
Facilities: picnic tables, wood barbecues (bring your own firewood), non-flush toilets
Not permitted here: Gathering firewood.
Contact: Kyogle, Phone: 02 6632 0000

The Creek should be flowing and has a few holes worth swimming in if not just dipping your toes.

Meeting point:
This has also changed to Boonah at the Information Center 8:30am Depart 9am,
due to the shorter run we figured you can all sleep in a little longer

 2013 November 16 ,17 XMAS PARTY

River City 4WD Club Christmas party 2013

Urgent UPDATE!!!
Due to the wet weather the Telstra track has been canceled!!
We should have known this from the beginning as I was going
The Weekend is still on and we are looking at doing a short run to the camp site
Meeting point has been also changed to Boonah at the Information Center 8:30am Depart 9am

************************** Update*******************************
Jason has been given the ok for the Telstra Trail at Main Range on the 16th of Nov. There is a limit of 10 vehicles and that it stay's reasonably dry.

The Telstra trail runs from Governor’s Chair at Spicer’s Gap and joins the Spicer’s Gap road about 4km to the west inside the national park. From here the Spicer’s Gap road heads further west for around 5km to join the Cunningham Highway on the western side of Cunningham’s Gap.
So I guess the original post of no real 4WD work involved as it's more of a social event, for 10 lucky Vehicles has changed!!
As numbers are Limited we need to get your interest Recorded - Remember only 10 Vehicles so miss out and you will have to meet us there rather than travel the range

The Camp grounds while sometimes being a little damp is quite flat, not overly visited and you can have fires so bring you Damper and Camp oven cooking skills.
What should you bring..
1 - Your Family - more the better
2 - Camping gear - expect wet weather as I will be there
3 - Food - TBA. We will be supplying some soft drinks
Oh for the inexperienced Ice melts so if you are bring a cake make sure it's in a water proof container - <<< not pointing any fingers Wink
If you are intending to bring a Meal or Desert please let us know so we don't end up with too many of the same - a guy can only just so much Pavlova :o

There is a creek right next to the camp grounds and some may wish to take a dip but the water is cold! There is also a walk we can do that crosses several properties and takes you along the cliff edge where you get a really nice view of the river - apart from that there really is not much to do, although it's not too far from Queen Mary falls and the Condamine river run so depending on people and traveling needs we may be able to fit this in as a possible path to the camp grounds.
Also the camp site is close enough to Brisbane that if you are unable to stay the night you could make your way home after the party.

People indicating they will Attend and Travel on the Telstra Track: 10 Cars Total.
1 - Jason (Hdj78rv) - Has the Key Big Grin so is the Trip Leader
2 - Peter & Possible Passenger (Narelle is working  ) (Troopiepete)
3 - Les & son Erik (sirlezz)
4 - Alan & Ping (BarcooBlades)
5 - Adrian (hekarewe)
6 - Mick (SPARKY)
7 - Joe and 12 year old Daughter Bella
8 - Paul

9 - TBA
10 - TBA

Attending the Party but not traveling,

Meeting Place and time to be arranged - will post up ASAP.

2014 May - Fri 23-24-25 Fraser Cleanup COMPLETED
Posted by: troopiepete - 14-10-2013, 01:53 AM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (30)

Many details to come;

Some of us are thinking of making this a week long trip so the dates may change or be extended!
If this happens a separate post will be made for this as it will be an addition the cleanup weekend trip.

Currently the usual cleanup action is for members to rock up Friday first light for the Barge at inskip point,
We set up camp and then do some exploring - the cleanup only takes part of one day or as long as it takes to do the section we have been allotted.

Pros and Cons,
For just the cleanup times/dates you will receive a discount on the Barge, free camping and free island vehicle permit.
But if you intend on staying either before or after the allotted times you will receive free camping for the cleanup days but may still be required to pay full fair for the Barge and the currently $41 vehicle permit - plus the camping fees for non cleanup dates.
Currently the Barge is $110 return - non discount per car - caravans and trailers are extra
A Vehicle permit is Min for one Month and is $41.??
Camping Fees are $5.40 per Adult per night

All Prices are from memory and may change at any time - or if I remember something else Tongue

Johnny Navara is the usual trip organiser for the cleanup so he will have further updates as they become available

Who Was attending - but has pulled out.

1 - Johnny
2 - Peter R & Scott - TroopyPete - $5 Paid
3 - Les - sirlezz
4 - Steve & Wendy - Weatherman - $5 Paid
5 - Jason & Jane & Bub - Hdj78rv - $5 Paid
6 - Merv Richens & Ian - $5 Paid
7 - George Wolf - Wolfieman81 (New member)

Who Was attending - but has pulled out.

1 - Dave & Deb - Time bandit
2 - Kris and Elizabeth Wells - Jake the Musso
3 - Victor Cox & two daughters (Victoria & Jasmane)
4 - Mick & son Tayla - SPARKY

If you intend on coming and your name is not on the list please let us know ASAP.
** Please Pay your $5 Deposit ASAP and let us know so your name can be added to the list.

2014 Jan 25-27 (Australia Day Wknd) Cooloola (Teewah) Beach
Posted by: troopiepete - 14-10-2013, 12:33 AM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (31)

This has been updated;

For the Weekend we are camping on the Cooloola (Teewah) Beach that is accessed from crossing the ferry north Noosa.
As to the actual camp sit this will be determined at the time and partly why I am heading up early so I can secure a good site early.

You will need to obtain a beach driving permit and camping permits Either on line or from the office this side of the ferry - http://parks.nprsr.qld.gov.au/permits/f ... qmmz1fr7_4

Yes I am heading up Wednesday the 22nd and heading home on the Tuesday - cause I can 8-)
Anyone interested in also camping longer please let me know.

I will have the club banner and looking at some form of lighting for finding the camp at night.
If you have a preference of camp sites and have the GPS location please let me know ASAP.
