  Hercules Snatch Strap recall
Posted by: sirlezz - 07-06-2015, 09:18 PM - Forum: General chat - No Replies

Hi guys just in case you have bought one of these offenders please read the following blurb and take appropriate actions Idea

From: Miles Brennan 4wd Qld
Sent: Saturday, 6 June 2015 12:06 AM
To: 4wd-clubs@lists.4wdqld.com.au
Subject: [4wd-clubs] ACCC Product Safety Recalls Australia - Hercules 8, 000 kg & 11, 000 kg Snatch Straps
Importance: High

Dear All,
There is a serious safety recall on several snatch straps which fall exceedingly short of their advertised / labelled product ratings; breaking snatch straps can result in injury or death. The use of these snatch straps should cease immediately and be returned to their place of purchase for a full refund.

The snatch straps are Hercules 8,000kg and Hercules 11,000kg which have been sold through 4WD Supacentre, Tigerz11, and Express Publications Pty Ltd.

4WD Queensland would like to advise all club members and general 4WD enthusiasts throughout Queensland, that purchasing cheap, highly discounted products from online websites is not the preferred way to purchase quality recovery or safety equipment, regardless of whether the online website is located in Australia, as many of the cheap items on sale would most likely originate from outside of Australia, and may not meet our build and quality standards.

When purchasing 4WD recovery or other safety equipment, 4WD Queensland recommends you initially visit your local 4WD parts specialist shop and discuss your recovery requirements, and review the offerings of quality, and well-known brands from the local retail outlets. Certainly shop around and compare your options, however highly discounted online prices should lead 4WD owners to question the quality of materials and testing processes being used in these cheaper offerings.

Always ask a reseller what country their products were manufactured, and what Australian standards and processes are used to test the quality and integrity of these products.

Don't skimp on quality when the safety of someone's life depends on it.

Kind regards,

Miles Brennan

2015 July 3 - Birdsville Big Red Bash 4wdQld COMPLETED
Posted by: sirlezz - 25-04-2015, 10:29 AM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (1)

Hi Thrillseekers breaking news of a new event at Birdsville this July IdeaBig Grin

Four Wheel Drive Queensland is supporting the Big Red Bash

We’ve been contacted by the team at Birdsville Big Red Bash to invite us to the 3 day July music festival.

The details and website are documented below and they are offering free camping at the event, and will help to accommodate larger groups such as clubs who wish to attend, to camp in the same areas etc…

As Birdsville is definitely on many people’s bucket lists, please pass these details around to your members and contact the team below for more information.

Reminder to mention the email below and you below to a 4WD QLD club. Idea

LETTER to 4wdQld from Greg Donovan the Managing Director of Big Run Events

As mentioned I organise the Birdsville Big Red Bash music festival at Big Red Red just outside Birdsville. All details of the concert are on the website see http://www.bigredbash.com.au

Held in the first week of July (school holidays) it’s an amazing outback event and this year is going to be fantastic with Jimmy Barnes as headline artist. There is free camping for 3 nights near the concert area at Big Red included.

You can see a promo video here

We have developed an offer that provides benefits to clubs and groups such as 4wd clubs, that want to come along to the Bash, in terms of discount off ticket price, plus a reserved and allocated campsite. I attach a flyer which is easy to distribute on line so you would be free to pass onto the individual clubs.

We have a couple of 4wd clubs from NSW running club trips to the Bash (in reality they are running a larger trip but incorporating the Bash into their itineraries), so are looking to let 4wd clubs know about it, and offer them these club benefits.

Obviously being based in Queensland (albeit a long way away in Birdsville!) we think that this offer may be of interest to some of the 4wd clubs in Queensland, thus Paul mentioned that it would be best to contact you in the first instance, rather than trying to make individual contact with every club.

We could set up a promo code such as 4wdqld for any club members to buy discounted tickets on line, or alternatively we are able to set up a code for each club which may be interested to allow them to purchase their discounted tickets.

Based on which clubs are coming and how many in their groups , we would then set aside preferred campsites at the concert so they can all camp together.

Also he was not sure if you publish a Queensland 4wd magazine or newsletter , but if so we would be interested in advertising in that too.

I hope that information and explanation is adequate, and would be interested in your feedback, and hopefully this is something that Four Wheel Drive Queensland can let affiliated clubs know about.

Kind regards
Greg Donovan

  Fuel prefilters
Posted by: sirlezz - 15-04-2015, 11:28 AM - Forum: Technical - Replies (2)

Hi guys at our last club meeting we were discussing fuel filters and Victor was promoting a 30 micron filter that would stop water getting through to your injectors

I have done a little research by contacting ebay sellers for there technical uses and advice

They come in microns from 2, 5 and 30 filters

the 30 micron is used as a pre filter to stop most of the contaminants before your standard filter

the 2 micron filter is used as a primary replacement filter before the injectors

One of the replies stated that no matter what filter you get it will not stop water getting into your injectors if the filters get full of water

a warning system will allow you to stop and drain before this happens
our standard filters usually has this already, but again some don't so check your current status

Search for this on Ebay and you can get them for $125 with no fittings or $170 with fitting best price so far
and you can also ask for a lower micron filter too

2015 Big Trip to South Australia 8 - 30 August
Posted by: sirlezz - 08-04-2015, 11:13 PM - Forum: Past trips - Replies (1)

Hello Thrill seekers
Victor is organising a three week trip leaving 8th August returning 30th August

This will be a 6,000k + trip and being a long way from home, you will need to be prepared with a capable and recently serviced vehicle, with adequate camp gear etc. some spares, recovery gear and of course food and water
(I will include a checklist soon)

Plenty of free camping along the way, with showers available at least every second day,
Glamping in units and pub meals are options for weary travelers and have been included in the planning

Short Itinerary so far
First Week
Leaving Brisbane and Heading to Broken Hill (3days) and visit the Mad Max Museum
then (2 days) to Clare Valley for a rest day of visiting wineries

Going north to Port Augusta then east through the Gawler Ranges then down to the Eyre Peninsula to finish the first week touring a fish or tuna farms

Second Week
Overnighter in Coffin Bay National Park then over to Ceduna, before heading out on the GOOGS Track overnighting at Mt Finke then onto Woomera
Finally heading to the Flinders ranges for 5 days of exploring including Wilpena Pound

Third week
Heading homeward via Cameron's Corner Currawinya National Park and St George etc. and any other place of interest along the way

Planning is under way at the moment and remember this is still a flexible trip with some opportunities for side trips etc.

There will be planning meetings held after May 13th Club Meeting, please watch for the announcements on this page

If you are interested in this trip, even if uncommitted at the moment please indicate your interest on this forum and attend the meetings to discuss details and your places of interest

Members interested so far
Victor Cox
Nigel Williams
Paul Burgess
Les Neilson

There will be a maximum of seven vehicles for the tour, but looking for a minimum of four

A more detailed Itinerary with mileages times/dates and route/maps will be supplied in May some time

This will give you an opportunity to study the route and see what is on offer and what can be done during the tour to ensure that the best things are available for everyone

This is what the future meetings are for; to nail down the important times dates and places and then allow for some flexibility and adhoc where possible

So if this trip wets your appetite and you are keen or just interested please let us know by replying to this forum and stay tuned for more information to come

This route is not perfect as it has a limit on stops and only follows main roads and not 4wd tracks(Googs track) but it gives an indication of where the tour will take you
will post a better map soon

I have 2 kids that live with us and my husband has 2 boys who live with their mum. And add the mums Undecided So when the boys visit, 8 seaters required!
Beach camping is the favored place but wouldn't mind looking at something different.

  Camping Suggestions
Posted by: Greg - 14-03-2015, 08:22 PM - Forum: General chat - Replies (1)

GDay All, my wife and I are new to the Brisbane area and miss nice quiet spots to camp on a creek or a river with our border collie. Any suggestions? We love to just pitch the tent, swim and relax by a fire without the hassles that go with commercial camping areas. Happy to travel a few hours.
