2014 - 22nd & 23rd Feb - Sundown working bee, camping 4WD
Hi

As you may have noticed I have changed the Dates to better suit my availability as no one seemed to have any objections :?

The Current idea for the trip will be for some of us to head up Friday and set up camp, possibly at the Winter camp as it's closest to the work site..
Or there is a possibility of some other site on the actual track..
The remainder of the working group will turn up on Saturday and join us on the working track, we will plan to work until around lunch time then head off to play and depending on the weather maybe even look at having a swim, there is a creek crossing on the working bee track that may be ok for a dip but must admit to never actually stopping to check it out Confusedhock:

We do need to ensure this trip is planned as the Ranger needs to be notified and possibly our joint venture club should be invited to help.

Hello

Those dates are good for me

As I am a person with time on his hand

I was thinking leaving am friday and going via Toowoomba with a stop over some where (vinchenzo's) and taking my time along the way and meeting up with the gang pm somewhere

There is a nice cafe in Allora (remember those milkshakes Peter)

Anyone else interested

Johnny

Re: 2014 - 22nd & 23rd Feb - Sundown working bee, camping 4W
I have changed the dates, hope it suits people,

Now we are on the 22nd & 23rd Feb..
Depending on my roster I may look at heading up Friday.

For Saturday travelers Meeting times for this are all at the BP, Aratula about 60 minutes from Brisbane on the Cunningham Highway. It is the First servo on the right. Going up Friday, depart at 12.00pm, or Saturday depart at 7.30am. About another 90 minutes from here to the park entrance.

If you are planning on heading up alone but are not completely sure where to go please let us know and somehow we will manage to either meet up or provide a map.

** Once in the park Mobile phone signals are scratchy to non existent, we will be monitoring CH28 but again this can be hard to find us so best try and sort it out before.

Only a couple of weeks left before Sundown. Who's coming?

I'll be either heading down very late on Friday night or Saturday morning.
Joe B is a possibility and I have invited Dave from Torq4x4 who is keen for a drive.

I assume Peter is coming as he changed the dates !!!!

Yep I will be attending,
I am free Friday so will head up then.
Thinking of camping either at the Winter Camp or along the track we are working on.. ideas anyone?
May look at trying to be up there by lunch time Friday so will leave home around 9am.

I'm coming Saturday morning, I know the work schedule. See you at Aratula.

Joe
Work is pretty relaxed, hopefully by the time the Saturday crew arrive all the work is done. Plenty of time for a play, there is a different track to where we are camping on Saturday night that may be what you are looking for.

Some are staying down on Sunday evening and coming home Monday.

Just remember Guys we need chain saws to remove a tree that is hanging over the main track.
For Friday night we have not decided on a camp site yet, we will see how things go Friday, had thoughts of trying out one of the clearings on the track we are working on, this way we can sleep in a little - Will keep a radio switched on 28 in the morning but if we do not meet you then just travel in until you find us.

Although it will be hot it may be best to ware Jeans while working on the track to help avoid getting scratched, also long sleeve shirt with a hat.

Daryl, I haven't contacted parks. I was under the impression pete was taking care of it.

I can bring a leg of lamb for the camp oven, if others want to bring the veges etc. mmmmm drooling already!

I have a hedge trimmer which could be good to trim back the shrubs at the start of the track. I also have the ppe for the chainsaw if anyone asks about it.

Jane and I may pull out if it's too wet as we are bringing our little man on his first camping trip!

Ok sorry for the muck up..

I have contacted Ian and he is fine with us going up there, he tells me the tracks are dry and the rivers are right down so all should be good.
Remember it can be flooding in Brisbane but a desert at Sundown, with the tracks being so dry it will take heaps of rain to make it "WET"

Great weekend. Great camp oven cook ups.

AND

Some great recovery work. One recovery required 3 vehicle winches to safely recover a vehicle from a very precarious position on the side of a very steep mountain. More to come, unfortunately the seriousness of the situation didn't allow for the time to take some happy snaps. And all of this on the main track.

Hi Jane, Alex and Jason

Thanks for attending, Sundown is just one of those places that gets under your skin, the distance out to the place is huge but worth the time and fuel.
We all enjoyed your company and look forward to seeing you all on more trips in the future..

On that note we really need to book in a future trip to look after the other end of the track, not sure when but soon would be good :-)

Oh yes the recovery for a change was not me or johnny!

Hello to all the sundowners

All that I can say what a great place great adventure all with the bestest of peoples

Even thought two of us got stuck that what makes a trip such memorable

On a personal note I did a few things that I have been wanting to do for ages
I stopped in Stanthorpe and walked both sides of the main street
Then onto Warwick and did the same thing
Onto Allora to have a milkshake (carmaral malted one pinter) remember them Pete

Found my way to Toowoomba as always got myself lost (that place does not like me)
home via several road works detours but what the heck

Did some 689k's

Johnny
