2015 24 - 26 Jan Australia Day Weekend COMPLETED
Looking for a place to go to on this long weekend Huh
a place to swim stay cool and beat the crowds etc. Cool

some suggestions are back to Cooloola at Teewah beach Idea
Gets busy but is is cool good for a swim, fish and some touring down rainbow beach at low tide, would be good if you can stay longer than the 3 days

Janowen 4wd park,at Goomburra there maybe a swimming hole, but not sure yet plenty of 4wd tracks and close to Brisbane
Will check it out for how busy it may be Shy

Moreton Island was discussed but it needs more than a weekend to justify the ferry costs and could be busy too would be good to stay longer than 3 days Tongue

Any way post some ideas of your own wild ones or not AngryBlushConfusedHuhUndecided

I will check them out over the next few weeks, and report back but being xmas butmay be slow getting information

we should make our mind up by mid January and settle for one whatever you want it to be
so get busy and we will make it happen Big Grin

Possible Alternative..

This is from a Friend on Facebook;
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The family and I are heading off to Ewingar State Forest to celebrate the Australia Long Weekend and we would like you to join us.

Ewingar State Forest is approximately 5-6 hours south west of Narangba in Northern NSW. The nearest town is Tabulam and is 45 minutes away.
The other major towns are Tenterfield to the West and Casino to the East. Even though Tenterfield is closest, Casino is quicker to travel to.
Ewingar State Forest is suitable for some 2wds but it is preferred that you have a 4x4.
All family's are welcome.

There is plenty of space for Caravans, Camper-vans, Camper-trailers and tents.
There are 3 bunk houses (condition unknown) that could be slept in, cookhouse (can be slept in as well) and the main house. 2 long drops and a garage.

I should mention that this trip/event has been started by me and is a personal trip open to those who wish to attend.

I will not be held responsible for injuries or damages if you wish to attend.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have asked if others from our club are invited, answer is yes :-)
Currently I am down as a possible...

Some time back Joe took us to the same camp site and it Rained!
But then that is normal for me Angry
It should be cooler than the Coast, there may be other clubs also attending.

and swimming holes of course too

good to know what is on offer hereHuh

I see that the club was here in Feb 2012 and we have some posts on it Wink

and that Joe was planning a trip early this year through the area as well Rolleyes

and as I have not been here before I prefer this to Teewah Beach and more interesting than Janoween Hills Big Grin

I will have more time that usual to make the trip before and or after so no problems for me Cool

Mindfull that it will take around 4 hours plus to get there or in the vicinity of the state forest

RE: 2015 24 - 26 Jan Australia Day Weekend
Some info on the Recky I did the other week end up at a place call Mt Barny Retreat.
Not a bad place, it does have a dam that does get used for swimming and it's about 750m above sea level so escapes the heat. There are two Cabins that sleep about 8/9 and a main Hub that has almost everything that you may have forgotten. A huge large grass area for setting up Camp.

The drive up is on a main Fire trail and through private property with about 3 steep hill climbs and nice scenery.

Camping Fees

$20 per person per night.

$10 per child (3 - 12yo).

Weekend tariff - minimum 2 nights.

Adults: $40.00 Children: $14.00 (3 - 12 year old are charged at child rates).

50% deposit required upon reservation for all camping bookings.

Deposit payments are by direct deposit and balance is due during your stay.
I'll put up some pics but will talk about it some more at the January meeting next week.

Hey Thrill seekers Cool I know you are chomping at the bit for a long weekend away

So after last Wednesday's Meeting 14 Jan 2015 it was discussed to decide between two 4wd parks Huh

Janoween 4wd Park http://janowenhills.com.au/?page_id=30

Travel Time 2 Hours 10 Mins ex Brisbane
Plenty of room and won’t be over booked Only GG 4WD club with 20 cars so far booked
It was suggested to me the New camp ground has some good swimming holes

4wding Per 4wd vehicle $28 for 1-7 days
Per 2wd vehicle $15 per day but free if camping
Camping
PP $12
PC $7
Babies $3
Also large families only pay for two children all others are free

City View http://www.cityview4wd.com/
Plenty of room only 3 enquiries for the weekend and no bookings yet

It does have access to old Scenic Rim park and has some challenging new tracks all over the park
There is some shade for camping near the creek which is not running
some dam swimming is available
Travel Time 1 hour ex Brisbane
4wding $55 two days
Camping
PP $10
PC $6

so please reply to this forum by Monday 19th Jan so we can make a firm booking Big Grin Cool Idea

If no real choice is made by then we will choose Janoween Park as first preference

Janoween Hills is good for us.

I have stayed at the other camp ground nice and flat along the creak but not as many trees as the normal spot we camp at.

Hope people vote so we can make it a great outing.

I'm at 90% confirmed to make the weekend, just have to arrange some young adolescent minding for Saturday night. Whilst I would like to try City View I am a huge fan of Janowen Hills. With running water in the creek, new campground and new tracks (I believe), can't go past it.

So, three days to go. Who is coming? Are we meeting at BP Aratula at 7am on Saturday?
Right now, depending on the drawer build, I'm considering heading up Friday afternoon.

Janowen Hills it is by Default,

Meet up at Aratula BP around 7am for a 7:30 leave.
Don't forget to be on our club Channel (28)

We need to know how many people are coming so we can book and save space along the creek for us to be together as a group.

Wendy and I will be going.

We will head up on Saturday morning stopping at Aratula for fuel as it is normally 10c cheaper per L.

RE: 2015 24 - 26 Jan Australia Day Weekend Decision Time

These are the two camp sites at Janowen with the main one that has the deeper water in the creek and depends on when we get up there if we can get a spot near by.

If we can this will be the camp area that we will stake claim to, otherwise we will head down to the 2nd camp ground and set up there.

If there is anyone heading up on Friday before the group gets there on Saturday morning can you sort out a good spot in the main camp ground near the water.

If not when we get up there on Saturday morning hopefully not to many groups will be up there and we can have a pick of the sites.

Any other thoughts?

Looks like there should be some water in the creek up at Janowen.
Friday should be the heaviest rain full around Brisbane and the rain is mostly coming of the sea.

Looking forward to a great relaxing weekend away. Big Grin

I have been looking at the Radar over the day and as the rain is coming of the ocean and from the North most of the rain hasn't made it up the range.

I'll be at Aratula around 7am for breaky and leaving the BP at 7:30, I'll be on Ch28 or you can call me on 0430003868.

Ok just checked with Janoween park
they have had only 30mm of rain today with plenty of sunshine inbetween
the creek is up because it has been falling on the ranges
expecting it to dry up tomorrow and the creek to fall
tracks will dry out saturday quite quickly with no rain
should work out to be a good weekend weather wise
nice and cool

Saturday morning showers cloudy
Sunday partly cloudy with a possible shower in the afternoon
Monday same again

Brisbane weather has defeated me today. Hoping for a fine morning and I can finish the drawers, actually only fitting them and wiring in the fridge. Should only be a couple of hours as not planning on this being the final fitout. Still need to pack and of course go to the shops.

Don't wait for me a Aratula, I'm hoping weather permitting to be up there early to later afternoon.

Well, looks like the missus might not be coming after all as she has come down feeling a bit crook. So, won't be meeting at Aratula in the morning but if all goes well hopefully I might be able to get packed and get there in the afternoon, if not then maybe Sunday.

Well it ended up a rather good weekend. 4 cars camping, and a sunday visitor. For all the rain that Brisbane had, the tracks were dry.
I promise not to tell anybody that the Nissan was required for a rather serious recovery of a Toyota. I allow said owner time to tell the true story or I can tell it as I remember it a little later.
The best fun was the night run out the back of the park on Sunday night.

Hi Everyone
Finally got my computer back online
had phone and internet issuesAngry when I got home on Sunday night
and then the computer would not boot upHuh so we rebuilt it today

Janoween Hills report
Weather tuned out great after a Wet Friday in Brisbane, and the tracks were really good with only some mud here and there

Anyway we ventured out to do an outside circuit of the tracks stopped to try out the wombat holes, log hop, mud pit but it was dry and some little but steep climbs out of the creek at the first gymkhana area

later on someone had ignition issues, and was towed to flat ground and then after investigation a little fuse was replaced to fix it and we then continued on across to the other side of the park and into the next gym pit, then up through the bottom camp site driving up the creek to our campsite and a paddle in the cool creek

so these are some of the pictures from Sunday

having fun in one of the gymkhana pits

Group Photo of cars up on the tyres trying out some flex muscle

RE: 2015 24 - 26 Jan Australia Day Weekend Decision Time
Well we had a great weekend out at Janowen hills with great weather.
And yes the reliable troopy did have a moment out on the tracks and did need to be towed to a better spot to find the problem.
I would like to describe it as not a Nissian towing a Toyota but as one club member helping out an other club member Blush

Once we were on flatter ground and all the wiring was checked the next was the fuses and after pulling out 3 the 4th one was the problem, replaced the fuse and the Troopy came back to live.

For the first club trip of the year, it was a good one and hope as a club this year will continue the same way.

Here are some pics from the weekend.
